The matriarch to my entire program, the dog that helped me follow every dream I have ever had. I picked up Birdie as a small, six-week-old puppy with big dreams to accomplish. I had gotten an internship in Alaska working with a retriever trainer and planned to fly her to Alaska with me a few short weeks later. Birdie was there for every step of the way while I learned something new every day about hunting dogs and training. Birdie immediately jumped into hunting as soon as we returned to Texas for her first dove and duck season, to everyone’s surprise she killed it. We continued to turn heads together by not only being a poodle and women duo in the hunting industry of south Texas, but with Birdie truly showing her talent in the field to many. Birdie started her career as a hunting guide dog at this point and continued to shine even following to help me meet my husband in the progress. She has retrieved thousands and thousands of birds in her lifetime and hunted in over 10 different states. Birdie was showcased in the television series Gundog TV in 2017 promoting the poodle breed as a versatile hunting dog. The episode revolved around the poodle’s use in the field for dove hunting which the episode featured multiple clips of Birdie dove hunting in the field. Birdie has accomplished quite a few both AKC and UKC hunting titles, she was the first and only female poodle to accomplish the Upland Gundog Advanced title which she achieved in 2015. Birdie earned her Master Upland Hunting title in 2022 as well as earning the ultimate gold medallion through the national breed club. Birdie is an avid goose hunter and retrieved her first banded goose as of 2023 after 7 seasons of retrieving geese. She continues to amaze us every day and her story continues.
SHR Simply Southern’s Double Shot Whiskey SHU UWC “Whiskey”
Whiskey has truly never had a day of formal training everything she learned was in the field or it came naturally to her. Whiskey started day one going to quail hunts with me and quickly proved she was going to be an incredible dog. Whiskey has earned both her AKC Senior upland title and a HRC Started Retriever title in her time away from hunting season. She has produced some amazing hunting dogs and continues to be an amazing field dog. Although Whiskey is retired from breeding she still competes in hunt tests and is an active guide dog in the field for bird season.
SHR Simply Southern’s Whisper an’ Willow JHU
Willow was my first dog to really seek out when looking to build my guide string as a hunting guide. I did not know what I was getting into by adding a “brown clown” to the family. Willow blew my mind at the age of six months old holding her own in the bird field. She is my number one guide dog when it comes to hunting with clients and perfect dog to dress up to take trick or treating with our toddler. Willow has the perfect mix of on and off switch which she has shown to pass down to her offspring as well. Willow is currently working towards her AKC Senior Upland title and has already earned her HRC Started Retriever title. Willow loves any and every type of hunting and I often joke she knows what I need before I ask her. She has opened the eyes of so many hunters when they step into the field with us with her incredible hunting drive and intelligence.

Birdie is the light of my life, and I cannot imagine my life without her. My prayer was to get a puppy just like her to continue following my dreams. To always have a piece of her with me. Birdie had three puppies and I knew immediately that she was my dream dog. Quinn was simply amazing from the beginning I could not have dreamt a better dog. For as many doors as her mama had opened for me Quinn continued to do so. Quinn had such incredible drive to hunt, training, and be a team player. She is such an honest dog to hunt with and compete with. Being able to lean on Quinn during a hunt test that I may have made a mistake on is the best thing. Quinn has so many of Birdie’s amazing qualities and so many of her own. Quinn is my number one waterfowl dog and she loves to work.

Fancy was the worst puppy in the litter and to this day she still outsmarts us daily! She is one incredible hunting dog and test dog. She loves to retrieve birds and learn new things. She is currently showing in UKC and participating in hunt tests. She lives part time with Lila Kirkpatrick my dear friend and co breeder and myself at Simply Southern Retrievers headquarters. Fancy is a wild girl who loves to keep busy she seems to excel in any sport we try with her.
