- Where is our training facility located?
- We are located 15 minutes west of San Antonio in Mico, Texas.
- How long is our obedience program?
- Our obedience program varies from 4 to 8 weeks depending on the desired level of training and how quickly your particular dog learns. Generally our 4 week program is our on leash basic obedience and our 8 week program is our off leash and E collar training .
- How long is your gun dog training?
- Our gun dog training is typically 4 to 6 months of training which can still vary by dog. Time is just an approximation because every dog learns at different paces. Check out our dog training program tab for more info!
- Will you train my dog for hunt tests and field trials?
- No, we train a gentle’s gun dog which is a well mannered family member and hunting companion.
- Will my dog remember me after training?
- YES! Your relation with your dog will stay strong even while a new one is formed with the trainer. Your dog will be occupied learning exciting new things, while adjusting to the training program. Simply Southern Retrievers is always available for updates and encourages scheduled visits.
- What do I do with my dog when they graduate and go home from training?
- We will send you home with an excellent foundation to work with when going home and highly encourage you come back to train with us at any time at no cost. We recommend training your dog 3-4 times a week for 15 minutes to help your dog continue their newly learned manners.
- What do I need to bring when I drop off my dog?
- All you need to bring during drop off is the dog food your dog is currently on, heartworm and flea/tick prevention, your vaccination records, your training form PRINTED and FILLED out, and a dog collar without dangling tags.
- Can I come visit my dog?
- Of course! If your dog is here for the obedience program we highly recommend visiting after 2-3 weeks. Plan on spending a half hour to one hour with us during the take home session.
- For our gun dog program we encourage a visit at the 4-6 week mark and then every 4-6 weeks once your dog is in the field to review training. This allows us to teach you everything your dog is learning while in training and how to handle them.
- Does my dog sit in a kennel all day?
- No way! In addition to the training session we do with them 6 days a week, dogs get our morning and evening to play in the yard and blow off steam. That being said we keep things extremely structured with our dogs in training to ensure they are learning and keeping everything consistent.
